Tchotiashvili Family
At the beginning of the 18th century, Tchotiashvili’s big ancestor has built a house at Alazani Valley, at the right bank of river Lopota in the village Saniore. From that time, from year to year, there was held “rtveli” (harvesting of grape) and wine was made in Qvevri. With big love to vine and vineyards already the sixth generation carries on traditions.

Today in the head of family business are Kakha and Ucha Tchotiashvili. Winemaker’s and technologist’s responsibility is on smaller brother, Kakha Tchotiashvili. He has enriched the received inherited knowledge with practical experience and scientific experiments of wine technology.
In 2002, brothers decided to fulfill their long-standing idea and added the rare grape varieties to the existing vineyards. This way were created the first trial ampelographic sections. Over time, it has become necessary to scale the family business and present the received results to the wider society.

In 2013, the family business was turned into the small, but promising company “Satsnakheli”, and the company introduced to the market its wines made in Qvevri according to the traditional technology.
In Tchotiashvili’s Cellar, wine producing begins with soil care and ends with bottling. All family members take part in the production processes and the working phases are strictly controlled. Bottled wines are allowed to be sold only after Kakha’s inspection and his signature.
Tireless work, great love for business and high sense of responsibility made it possible for the wines from Tchotiashvili’s Cellar to receive the highest marks and prizes at various famous international exhibitions.

We create traditional winemaking, we make everything by hand, even inscriptions on labels are made by hand. We have chosen a difficult way – we do not work for quantity, we produce little, but high-quality. From the beginning, the main goal was to create rare varieties of vines and vineyards. Near Rkatsiteli and Saperavi, we have Kakhuri Mtsvivani, Tavkveri, Khikhvi, Kisi, Mtsvane grape varieties. We produce red, rose, white and amber wines.

For me making wine in Qvevri is real art and big responsibility. We haven’t any right to lose it and should pass our knowledge to the future generations. If there are more cellars like ours, the quality won’t be lost and we’ll have better reputation abroad. I see the potential of Georgian winemaking, exactly in such small producers and high-quality wines development.
